Shalang Dhura Peak
A Peak For Bignner Climbers
Shalang Dhura Peak is situated in the Kumaon Himalayas in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, India. It stands as one of the nearest six-thousand-meter peaks in Uttarakhand Himalaya, surrounded by stunning summits such as Nanda Devi, Nanda Kot, Nanda Bhanar, Danthal, and many other six-thousand-plus peaks or mountains. Most of these peaks have been climbed only a few times, adding to the allure of the region. The peak is nestled in the midst of the northeastern Poting Glacier and the northwestern Shalang Glaciers. The waters draining from these glaciers contribute to the Goriganga River, with one branch near Bogudiyar and another below Martoli.
The area boasts a rugged and pristine landscape, attracting adventurers and mountaineers seeking the challenge of less-explored peaks. While Dangthal was attempted in the early 90s, there is no documented evidence of a successful climb. This region, with its remote and challenging terrain, offers a captivating destination for those looking to explore and conquer lesser-known peaks in the Uttarakhand Himalayas.
