Nanda Ghunti

Serious Mountaineering Enthusiasts

Nanda Ghunti has become a magnet for serious mountaineering enthusiasts seeking a challenge. Despite not being technically difficult, the mountain is renowned for its unpredictable weather conditions and crevasses encountered en route to the summit. Mt. Nanda Ghunti (6309 m), also known as the “Veil of Goddess Nanda Devi,” is situated in the Garhwal Himalayas within the Nanda Devi National Park.

This majestic peak is visible from the famous Roopkund trail, offering trekkers a glimpse of the trident-shaped Trishul massif. The summit of Nanda Ghunti provides breathtaking panoramic views of Mt. Trishul, the Chaukhamba massif, Kamet, Nanda Devi, Dronagiri, and many other surrounding peaks. The trek begins on the well-known Roopkund trail, with the path diverging towards Homkund, which serves as the base camp for the Nanda Ghunti trek.

The approach to the summit follows the eastern ridge, navigating through glaciers and moraines. Trekkers are treated to clear views of Nanda Ghunti and Trishul as they make their way to Roopkund in the Himalayas. The trek to Nanda Ghunti offers not only a challenging ascent but also a visual feast of some of the most iconic peaks in the Garhwal Himalayas, making it a memorable and rewarding experience for those who undertake the journey.
